To go along with the Minolta α9 I picked up a Minolta AF 80-200 f2.8 APO G and a monopod to really help with the shoot. A high speed zoom with crazy fast (for film) autofocus really helped me get nice shots, and the monopod was miles better than freehanding or using a tripod. I shot either 800 or 500 speed film for this (the new Kodak AHU Vision3 film is FANTASTIC) and I think anything less than 500 iso is going to be too much of a limiting factor for modern sports film photography
